Queer Culture in Luxembourg
Gestured Lecture (EN/LU) by Profx.Drx. Sand Gattus
Queer Culture in Luxembourg. The year is 2024, and Luxembourg has become a haven for queer people; queer arts and artists are celebrated everywhere, and non-heteronormative artists do not have to struggle to get platforms. All the major cultural institutions of Luxembourg are mainstreaming LGBTIQ+ artists and their works through their program. There are self-declared safe spaces sprouting throughout the country, and “queer” has become the new normal. There is no threat. There is nothing to be afraid of…Oh… but is this true, or is this just another queer little lie that we are all too willing to believe?
Commissioned by LEQGF asbl and ILL, Profx. Drx. Sand Gattus, renowned specialist in Trans*Queer Cultural Studies, author of many unpublished books and certainly not an alter ego, will offer an assessment of the state of the art queer in the Grand-Duchy.
querida cucaracha
Performance (EN) by Valerie Reding
querida cucaracha querida cucaracha unfolds as a tender love letter to an unlikely muse: a cockroach, an animal dreaded and
loathed by many. Digging through layers of fear, disgust and shame, Valerie Reding invites the public to
follow them to the gloomy margins and look closely at this fascinating, prolific and resilient creature. Playing
with references to the Mexican Revolution and Pop Culture, the performer unveils the cockroach as a symbol
of resilience and resistance. A testament to survival amid the ravages of racial, colonial, sexist and ableist
capitalism. A hopeful and empowering reclamation of pride and solidarity in deviancy. A loving rallying cry for
collective liberation.
